What you need to know about Bed Bugs

What do they look like?    Bed bugs are flat and are a reddish-brown, they are oval looking and 4 to 5 mm long,  they are about the size of an apple seed.   They will appear swollen and reddish after a blood meal.

Their diet and behavior  

Bed bugs only feed on blood. Under the right conditions, bed bugs can survive up to a year without a blood meal. They are active at night when the host is a sleep, they can be active during the day also when the host is sleeping.

Bed bugs are found in cracks and crevices, along mattress and box spring seams, in the crevices of furniture, under and behind baseboards and backboards of bed frames.  They also hide behind electrical outlet plates and picture frames. They can travel from room to room. 

The female Bed bug can lay 1 to 5 eggs a day, and can lay as many as 200 to 500 eggs in her lifetime.  With normal room temperatures and a food supply, they have been known to live over 300 days.

What you should be looking for ……

Seeing the bugs or Case skins, they shed their skins.

Defecation, they defecate black to brown stains, and often you will see blood stains.

How Did I get Bed bugs….. Some common places are offices, hotels and even movie theaters. They are great at hiding and have been known to hitch a ride in luggage, personal belongings.
